Anyone out there using Quicken 2005 for the Mac? I just switched my
home PC from WinXP to Mac and I'm finding that the 2004 version of
Quicken that comes with the iMac is downright awful. It can't easily
import windows data without fouling it up, and it lacks many of the
features of the windows program (e.g. support for 401k accounts).
Have any of these shortcomings been fixed in the Mac 2005 version?
Should I continue to stick with the PC version for the time being?
Thanks in advance,
Plato

My experience is the same as yours. There are no improvements of any kind
in 2005 for Mac that I can find, and indeed there seem to be some new
problems. I've abandoned the Mac version of Quicken in favor of the WinXP
version. To do this, I had to install VirtualPC and Windows on my Mac, and
found it works best with more memory, so the investment was substantial --
but worth it.

I can't speak to the conversion from Q-WIN, since I've used Q-Mac for years for
my own accounting. I have a couple of clients with Q-WIn (including back to
Q-1998!), but I deal with those on my PC - never the twain to meet. I've
upgraded each year, since I need to be up to date, just in case. I haven't had
much problem with Q-Mac, though the 2005 version does quit more often - usually
when I'm adding amounts to a previously-recorded transaction.

I don't have any trouble with my SEP or Roth accounts: I set them up as
portfolio-brokerage-tax-deferred (Q-2005 does include a 401(k) type of account,
but I don't use it). All the transactions go to non-taxable gain and income
accounts, so they don't show up in taxable reports.
