I have a JPMorgan-Chase credit account which I previously set up. Now I have
a pin number and want to download my activity into the account. When I go to
"Options" "view online setup" is whited out.
How do I set up the account to access Chase and download my transactions?
I have Quicken 2002

I don't recognize this: how did you get there?
How do I set up the account to access Chase and download my transactions? I have Quicken 2002

In the Account Overview tab for the account, you should have a
field named "Online Account Access". If the account has not
been enabled for online access, the field should read,
"Available, Not Enabled". If you click those words, Quicken
should initiate the enabling process, at the end of which you
should be asked to enter and/or verify some information about
your account.

Also make sure that your Financial Institution appears in the list of
Quicken supported institutions for the account type that you have. Then make
sure that in the account you want to enable the name of the financial
institution is the same as that appears in the list for Quicken.

Good point; and JP Morgan is in the fi list for Q2002 in a
couple of different places ... not contiguously! There is "J.P.
Morgan", then 9 non-JP Morgan related names later, "JPMorgan
Chase Bank" (which is the one I think you want).

When I am in the Chase account I go to Options on the task bar directly
under Register.
Does the account name have to be JPMorgan-Chase mine is labeled "Chase" but
"financial institutions" is listed as JPMorgan-Chase.
I tried to set up a new JPMorgan-Chase account but when finished it said
that a similar account was already listed.

Ok, found it. The fact that the option is whited out should
mean that the account is already enabled for online access.

No, there should be no restrictions on the "Account Name"; just
the "Financial Institution" name.
I tried to set up a new JPMorgan-Chase account but when finished it said that a similar account was already listed.

Makes sense; you already have the account setup and enabled for
online access.

I suggest you just initiate a One Step Update (assuming
JPMorgan-Chase does "direct" download, which I think they do)
which I believe will ask you to enter your pin for
JPMorgan-Chase, before the download starts. That pin should be
"remembered" in the pin vault so you should not have to enter it
again.

I'm sorry, I suspect I misinterpreted your initial remarks and
did not think you had already enabled the account for online
access. Had I realized that you had, I would have just told you
to start the One Step Update.

Did you get this to work? I have tried to get my Chase credit
cards to download in Quicken before and have failed. I just
checked again and it said "Quicken users must have a Chase
checking account". I don't.

Have you spoken to Chase?

Well, no, but I tried it and it did not work, and I'd like to
think that the information that I am seeing on their website is
accurate. Besides, I rarely use my Chase cards. Oh, and the
website also claims there is a $2.95/mo charge after the first
month.

But since it seems you know the correct answer, why not share it
with me?

I don't know the correct answer; not really sure what I said to
lead you to believe that. Your experience seemed to agree with
what the fi web-site said, but your post indicated that you
still had some questions/doubts. I do know that some banks
charge for direct connect (or require you to have minimum
balances, etc.). And what I really know is that the best source
of such information is the financial institution themselves, and
if there is any question about what a web-site says or means, I
always try a live human being.

Are you downloading from within Quicken or from Chase's website and
then importing it into Quicken? I've always had the problem that they
require me to have a checking acct if I want to download from within
Quicken. Last time I spoke to someone at Chase, many months ago, they
said "we're working on it".

I do it from the CHASE website, then import it from the desktop into Quicken
2002.

Works always!

Yeah, that's not what I was asking about. And I'm fairly sure
it's not what the OP was asking about either, since he was
talking about setting it up from within Quicken. Thanks anyway.

Do not do it from within Quicken.
I never succeeded that way either.

Do it the way I said and all will be fine. Have used it that way for YEARS !
