View Full Version : Q2004 Not Downloading/Uploading Data

Just thought I would share a recent experience.
Have been running Q2004 with no problems. All accounts setup for downloading
have been working well. I do quite a bit of banking with Wachovia and
download from them every day or two, with no issues.
Last week, I had entered some new bill payment information to upload to
Wachovia. When I went on line, everything seemed to run fine (no error
messages) but Quicken said that I still had instructions to upload. The
Online Summary report stated that everything was fine and that there were no
transactions to download. Went online to Wachovia's site and found that
there *were* transactions two days old which should certainly have
downloaded. And couldn't get the bill pay instructions to upload at all
(again, no error messages).
Spent an hour or so online with Wachovia's help desk (they're usually pretty
good about working things out). The woman I spoke to was a bit baffled as
from their end it showed a good connection, but nothing was moving back and
forth between them and Quicken. They asked me to disable online access for
all Wachovia accounts and setup again from scratch.
Got off the phone and tried this, but couldn't disable online access to
those accounts with online bill payments due in the future. Also couldn't
delete these "future" payments through Quicken or by trying to send
instructions to cancel them (no upload, remember).
Called back and got a very sharp tech. She first had me do an update and
uncheck all of the boxes. Not sure if she did prior to this on her end, but
when I did that, shut down Quicken and reopened, all of my online bill
payments (not yet paid) had been cancelled. That allowed me to disable
online access for all Wachovia accounts.
Set them up again and had the same problem (no upload/download with no error
message).
Went into the accounts screen to view all accounts so as to make it easy to
see which accounts I needed to enable and found my problem. I had a joint
account with my son at Wachovia. My son (being irresponsible) had bounced
some checks and I had closed the account a few days prior to that. I had
edited the account so that it didn't show up in the account list (and had
just noticed that it had disappeared from my account listings when I logged
directly into Wachovia's site).
The problem was that I hadn't deactivated online access for that account.
As soon as I did so, everything else worked fine. The tech confirmed that
sometimes if you have a closed account with online access still activated,
it will stop download and/or upload of data. (Of course, I feel like an
idiot for not thinking about the *one* thing that I'd changed...)
Don't know if this might be an issue with other banks, but wanted to give a
'heads up' on it .. very puzzling symptoms and an easy solution.

I think I've been having problems that seem similar since about early
November with my bank and one brokerage account.
When I try to download using Quicken's internal webconnect function,
everything works till the actual file download is supposed to occur. Then a
window flashes onto the screen and disappears so fast I cannot see what it
says, but I suspect it is some kind of error message, and the down load does
not occur. If I go to the bank website, and download from there, it works
(though not all the time - I think that the data has to be a day old before
it "takes".
I suspect this is a Windows SP2 problem, but not sure - have tinkered with
my Norton Firewall, Antispam and Antivirus to no effect.
Its a nuisance - if anyone has a solution, it would be very welcome.
