I just picked up a new HP Media Center 854n, and while everything ran fine right out of the box, I'd like the ability to re-install the software I just paid for should anything ever get hosed on my new system. So where are the software CD's or even system restore CD? While I've used HP systems in the past, this is my first HP purchase - I've been a pretty satisfied DELL buyer for years, but the Media Center features caught my eye this time. As stated earlier, everything setup, installed, and connected perfectly, a Good Thing - but I was really surprised to see that HP, unlike my previous DELL systems doesn't include 'backup' software/CD's. I've looked and read the encluded manuals but can't locate any information about producing a system backup or restore CD should the system go belly-up, and I hesitate to start installing my applications without one. Am I missing something? And THIS was a kicker; the *only* CD that DID come in the box was from (ta-daa) flippin' AOL! And THAT one has a sticker on it stating something to the effect of, "Don't open this CD!, AOL is ALREADY installed on your system. Instead give this CD to a friend." WTH?!?!. My "friends" would rather have a sexually transmitted disease than free AOL hours. The system did include a blank disc for DVD writing, but that's it. I'm also not a big fan of the "restore" CD, I'd rather just have the simple OS and peripheral installers if that's an option - I don't need or want a million little shortcut icons all over my desktop for unwanted promotions or services. I'm contacting HP this evening to see what my options are, but does anyone else feel they're getting ripped by this? Thanks for allowing the vent.. whew!.. dp
