View Full Version : Pavilion 8190 Power on problems

Lately this computer doesn't reliably turn "on" when I push the
momentary contact power button: the power and disk lights come on
briefly and I hear the "click" of some component (which I have always
heard) but the system doesn't start. Now if I firmly and deliberately
press the button, the system will start. Also, when I manually power
down the unit and press the button, sometimes it re-starts rather than
shutting off. (I have the automatic power management / suspend mode
disabled to avoid other problems---another story.)
Does this sound like a simple electro-mechanical problem with the
switch, or something more malignant? Searching Hp's troubleshooting and
parts web sites yields nothing useful to me. Any suggestions as to what
to look for would be appreciated.!
