View Full Version : HP Laserjet 5L paper feed problem after installing the free HP kits

Thanks for the responses. Let me clarify my questions:
I understand other parties offer repair kit for the multi-sheet
feeding problem for the 5L, but do they still work AFTER I have
installed (proplerly or improperly) the HP kit?
For those who are familiar with the mechanism, what possibly went
wrong that could cause the installation of the HP kit to stop feeding
paper?
Thanks again.

Hi Dewaine, how ya doing? Long time no hear from,

Anyhow, the free kit from HP causes more problems than it fixes
Get the kit from fixyourownprinter.com and you'll be able to remove
the HP kit when you have the printer disassembled.

I had the multi-feed problem also and for a while, fed single sheets.
I couldn't believe that HP wouldn't fix the problem. I ordered a
roller replacement kit from The Printer Works and spent about 3 hours
dis and re- assembling, replacing the feeder roller parts. Next, the
smoke test. I welled up with pride as it made it's custimary sound
and fed the first six inches of the paper, then the horrible grinding
noise started.
I'm about to go purchase a replacement. Guess which brand I will not
be buying?

Lorenzo,

HP stopped distributing the free kit to repair the 4L, 5L, 6L a few months ago
in the United States. They may still be available in Europe. Check the HP
Europe or HP Italia web site to see if the kits are available over there. If
not, you are probably better off either replacing the printer or ordering a
better kit from www.fixyourownprinter.com in the U.S.

con i migliori saluti,
Ben Myers

It was just the 5L and 6L (and 3100 and 3150). The 4L is quite
different, it has a conventional paper tray, it never suffered from
the problems of the vertical fed 5L and 6L (mine did jam once or twice
a day, but not a real problem).

I've seen people selling the "free" kits online, eBay for instance has
many at $5 -- just search for "5L jam".

Oops! I got my L-series LaserJets mixed up. Thanks for the clarification.

Very easy to get confused by HP nomenclature, isn't it? Sorry, I no longer have
total recall, and do not invest the extra time to research my responses to 100%
accuracy. Ah, well, that's what volunteering is about. Committ the time
available, and no more... Ben Myers
