Hi,
I am planning to upgrade the memory of my HP 8595c.
I have 2 Qs
1> Can I use any brand other than HP.
HP costs like 149 bucks while other 128MB PC100 SDRAM DIMM are
available for $30-$60.
will the performance be affected if I choose the lower priced ones?
2> Can I use 133 MHz instead of 100?
for product specs of HP 8595c please us the link

Thanks

The info on the HP web site states the exact specifications for the required
memory:
SDRAM, 133 MHz, Intel PC SDRAM unbuffered DIMM specification, revision 1.0
compliant.
To answer your second question first, the memory MUST be PC133 to work properly
with a 733MHz Pentium III and 133MHz front-side bus.
To answer your first question: HP, like other name brand companies, makes super
profits on upgrades, capitalizing on the ignorance, supposed laziness, or
supposed stupidity of its customers. The only difference between HP-branded
memory and GOOD QUALITY generic memory is the presence of the HP sticker on the
memory module. Believe me, the sticker is not worth it. But do yourself a
favor and buy memory from Crucial or another well-regarded supplier of high
quality memory... Ben Myers

Ben,
I just installed a 40 gb hd in my VA6200DT
and while I've been able to install it as a slave I can't seem to install it as
a master drive. I'm using the IDE HD controller on
the motherboard. I tried an ATA 100 controller but couldn't get that to work.
Any tips from you would be most welcome.
Thanks.
