I have an HP F70 LCD 17 inch flat panel monitor, that I use with a Dell 8300 P4 3.0 Ghz, 512 mb RAM, and ATI Radeon 9800 128 mb video card. The OS is Windows XP Pro. Under normal circumstances, while the computer is on, the monitor works just fine.

The other day, though, the monitor started acting stangelly when powering down or shutting down. When putting the computer in standby, or when shutting down completely, the monitor does not seem to go to sleep. The indicator light on the power button stays green, and won't turn amber. Previously, the screen would give me a No Signal message and then go black. Now it continuously alternates various colors.... complete red screen followed by completely blue screen, followed by completely white, green, etc. This doesn not stop until I turn the power button off manually.

Does this sound like a problem with the monitor itself? An XP problem (I have seen many people posting about shutdown and standby problems with XP in the Microsoft NG's.) Or maybe a video card problem? The video seems perfect at all other times, and boot-up is normal.

I can't seem to find any other references to a problem like this... if anyone has any ideas or thoughts on the matter, I'd really appreciate it!!
Thanks in advance.
