My HP 5L finally died after 2 sets of pick up rollers from Moe.
I now need to get a new laser printer and wanted some advice.
The HP 1300 looks good and many people have recommended the Brother
5040.
I am not as concerned about speed as I am with print quality. (I don't
want a dog either)
I have read the the HP1300 has bad print quality and I read nothing
but great things about he Brother.
So what I am asking is what does everyone think I should spend my 400
or so bucks on?
Any suggestion would be helpful.
Oh, I use the printer for personal and small home business use. I
maybe print 250 - 350 pages per month.
Also if there are cheaper printers that everyone loves I would be
happy to hear about them.

Thank you.

With laser printers, you gets what you pays for. If you buy cheap, you get
cheap. Although the HP 1200 and 1300 look a little better than the 5L, I am not
at all impressed with their quality. They are a lot of cheap plastic, but maybe
they would last.

Of the HP lasers, I think that only the 2100-2200-2300 series and better (4000
and 8000 series) have any respectable quality at all. You would do far better
with a refurb 2000-series or even a refurb older LJ5 than a 1300.

I can't speak for other brands, which invariably present problems with being
able to get toner cartridges at an affordable price after a year or two.
Lexmark is the exception.

Possibly due to the the flood of extremely cheap and cheaply made printers of
all types, HP now really dominates the printer market with a 75% share according
to some analysts. For lasers, tho, this means a ready and continuing supply of
toner cartridges for a number of years. You can still get toner cartridges for
the original old standby LaserJet II... Ben Myers
