Hello,

I have an HP Office Jet all-in-one - printer, fax, copier, scanner -
inkjet variety.

It prints fine. The problem is faxing.

If I put a document in the tray and hit the fax button it works just
fine. Dials and sends.

But if I try to fax from a software package like MS Word - it never
works. The fax software pops up and I put in the data. The preview
works - I can see all the pages I want to fax.

But upon hitting 'fax now' I always get an error saying under Status
in the logs -
Communication Error

A pop up menu comes up and says 'There was an error communicating with
the device. It will be put in the log to be reschuled later'. There
is no dialing.

When trying to send from Word - this is what I do.

Hit Print - the menu opens, I choose the device - HP OfficeJet D Fax
then hit OK.

The the HP fax director pops up - so I fill in the data (fax number
etc) and hit send now. Then I get that error.

I checked the ports - since it is hooked up to a USB cable, I choose
the dot4 port. Not LPT1.

I see the fax sitting in the log, but when I try to resend it - same
error.

Any ideas as to why?

I am running a Windows98se machine.

Thanks,

Tmuld.
