View Full Version : Scanjet 5300c upgrade CD for Windows XP
I upgraded to XP and checked online to see if I needed any upgrades for my
HP products. There was one listed for my scanjet and I could download it or
pay for a CD to install it from, since it was 73MB.I chose the CD, but there
are no instructions. Do I uninstall the original software, or is this an
addition to the original program? I called HP but they want $25 to answer
the question. Hope someone can help me.

Uninstall the original software, then attempt to install the XP version. You
may not succeed the first time around. HP's ScanJet software is notoriously
deficient when it comes to UNinstalling. Lots of files and registry entries
usually get left behind, and some of this stuff gets in the way of a successful
install of a newer version. You may have to resort to finding the folders used
for the Scanjet software (Program Files->HP->Deskscan or something similar),
then manually delete all references to ScanJet and DeskScan from the registry.
What fun! And for an answer, HP wanted to charge you $25??? The turkeys!
