Hi!,

I have a HP Brio Bax PC purchased in middle of 1999 running Windows
2000 Professional. It contains a 13 Gbyte hard disk. I would like to
add an extra hard disk.

Some questions:

1. I've been told that the BIOS defines the maximum disk size I can
add.
Where in BIOS does this information appear?
2. On HPs site there is a new BIOS version available, but I can't find
out if it supports bigger disks. Does anybody know anyting about
this?

Any feedback on the size of disk I can install and tips are greatly
appreciated.

Regards,
Sverre Medalen

It doesn't, at least not normally. Update to the latest system BIOS, for your best chances. Be prepared to use a software overlay
tool (Ontrack, Maxblast) or a new PCI IDE controller that supports larger disks. There's a FAQ on hp.com that says "33.8GB" is the
limit, so a 30GB IDE drive should work.

Of course you could consider SCSI.

You only have 1 3.5" HDD bay, so you'll have to find a way to mount it in a 5.25" bay.
Your IDE cable only has one connector, probably.
You shouldn't put the second HDD on the same cable as the optical drive.
