View Full Version : HP Officejet 5510 All-in-One Installation Problem

I am attempting to install a new HP Officejet 5510 inkjet
copy/print/scan/fax USB on a Dell Dimension T700r PIII-700 with 384MB
ram and running WinXP-sp1. I already have an HP Deskjet 5550 inkjet
printer installed on it which works great.
Following the initial part of the software installation the
instructions call for then attaching the USB cable on the device to
the PC and powering up the HP5510 to complete the rest of the software
installation. When I get to this point my PC crashes and reboots.
Happens every time at that stage, over and over. I already replaced
the HP5510 once, thinking it was a defective one, but the second one
was tested first in the store and it installed and worked fine there.
Same problem with the replacement when I got it home, so I know it
must be either my PC or my ignorance.
Anyone have the same problem? Any suggestions? TIA

I was on the phone to HP for 2 hours this morning. I could not get the
printer to work on my new Officejet 5510. We tried everything, and
then we zeroed in on the USB drivers. We updated them and then the
printer worked. This may not work for you, but it may be worth a try.
To update them, we right clicked into My Computer and went into
properties, device drivers. We found the USB drivers and found where
to update them.
Good luck. If all else fails call HP.
