Hey guys, I have an HP 6635 which wont boot from CD. I have installed
a new HD (80 gig Maxtor) which went in fine, and formatted ok. The
problem is i cant run the restore cd's because it wont boot from CD.
Is The only file on the Recovery CD 1 are bootcat.bin bootimg.bin and
startup.img also copydisk.exe. and a pile of qxd files which are
hidden. Does anyone know how i can get this system to run the recovey
from a win 98 bootdisk. I tried the usual copydisk e: startup.img c:
syntax . says it cant read the boot sector of the cd....i need some
help here folks ...please.

You could go into the BIOS and change the Boot order to make the CD-ROM the first item checked,
however, I fear that a new 'tattoo' is needed...luck...

Next idea is the 'tattoo'. A small program that tells the CD that this is, in fact, an HP computer.
There are two schools of thought here, one, that the 'tattoo' resides in the BIOS and is, therefore,
not needed when changing HDD's, and, two, that it (the 'tattoo') resides in both. I subscribe to
the second, therefore, I think you may have to have the 'tattoo' redone. Any authorized HP repair
person can do this, and the cost is usually nominal (less than $20), however I can't state that for
an absolute certainty...luck...

Had another thought, just as I sent the last one. Is a 'Ghost' of the original HDD possible? If
the original HDD is toast, this wouldn't be possible, however, if this is just an upgrade, then that
would somewhat solve the problem...luck...
