View Full Version : OfficeJet Fax Tone Problem

Occassionally, but not always, after receiving an incoming call, about
1 minute into the phone call I hear the fax tone. Apparently,
something activates my OfficeJet 5110xi to send/receive a fax. It
seems to happen more often when the caller is on a mobile phone. I
have to press Cancel on the machine to terminate the fax tone in order
to continue the voice call.
I have followed all the steps suggested by HP's web site and the
customer service personnel assure me my fax settings are correct.
Does anyone know what is happening and how to correct it?

This seems to be a somewhat common problem with the 5110. I bought my first
one in June and it acted like yours. Hours on the phone with HP technicians
FINALLY got it so that it would behave. I'm running W2000. We had to lower
the sensetivity parameters. Then about two weeks ago, the print carriage
jammed, so HP sent a reconditioned machine. This one didn't butt into the
conversations, however if the answering machine would pick up the call, when
the 'leave a message at the beep' signal came on, so would the fax machine.
HP finally decided that the machine was defective and sent another. It
arrived this morning. It does the same thing!! Who else makes an
all-in-one???????????
