Hiya!
I am running a HP7955. I am having start up problems. When I start up
my computer and the black Windows XP title page starts, it is fine, then
the screen goes black for about 2 minutes and then logs onto the windows
xp desktop. In my Event Viewer I am seeing an error that is under
System, it is an acpi source error category 4 & 5. I have downloaded a
BIOS update, my version is 3.06 and found an upgrade of 3.11. I made the
floppy boot up disk, downloaded the upgrade, and tried to install but
when I boot from the floppy and type BIOSupdt, it starts and then I get
an error message that says Error! Can't find system BIOS's hook. Remove
floppy and ctrl, alt, del to restart. Can you offer me any more idea as
to how I can fix this problem.
I've tried HP but they just aren't *hearing* me.....I've told them over and
over again that I get this error message, but
they don't tell me what it means!
Thanks in advance.

Don't have that model so this is a guess but go to the BIOS setup pages
on the current setup and see if there is an option to "protect" or
"lock" or ... the BIOS. It may be that the default behavior is to not
support upgrades to prevent accidents; think of it as a safety
interlock. There *might* be a jumper/button you'll need to set/reset
instead of or in addition to a BIOS lock.
