I'm getting real sick of this HP computer. First Word doesn't load files
from Explorer right, and now when I go to install QImage it won't
install--gets 65% of the way there (very slowly) adn disappears.
I mean, c'mon folks--surely someone has witnessed these behaviors before?
Ten more minutes of this and i'll be trashing the place.
Any ideas? Any steps to root out the problem with Word or with QImage?
Word takes 25 seconds to load a file if you click on the file in explorer.
works fine if you load word (1 sec) then load the file (1 sec). sometimes
it takes 30 seconds.
Happens whether you use explorer or some replacement (like Powerdesk).
Clearly this machine is screwed, but is it some software glitch? Or is it
the machine itself?
God knows I can't figure it out.

Disk Cleanup and then Defragmenter. Surprising how routine maintenance
will help with problems like these.

Given that it happens only with MS Word and you have done two installations
of Word, a newer one then an older one, How about wiping the system and
doing a full install from recovery and then install the correct MS Word
once?
Going back a level in code is always difficult. Best to start with a
relatively clean slate.

Not to unecessarily burden the thread, but first, you didn't mention
either; and, second, both *do* help with issues like yours. Further to
my original suggestion, delete the contents of the prefetch folder - it
will be rebuilt, and can become corrupted. You might also try "sfc
/scannow" from a command prompt to scan system files. Review Event
Viewer logs for persistent errors, particularly disk write errors.
