View Full Version : Laserjet 6P printer 'jamming'

I have a Laserjet 6P that's started kind of jamming: paper feeds
through but then stops after it passes over the roller - the 'jam'
light comes on but the paper can be removed easily by pulling it out
of the printer: i.e. it's not really jammed, just 'stopped'.

This doesn't happen all the time - it's an intermittent usually only
occurs after the printer has been switched on for a while. The sheets
of paper have some carbon on the top inch or so: this carbon isn't
fused to the paper and can be brushed away.

I'd be very grateful for any advice on what might be causing this and,
of course, any possible cures (particularly cures which don't cost
more than a replacement printer!).

Many thanks.

Andrew, UK

I posted a similar problem with no replies

Symptoms:
* Paper jams
* Some black streaking or marking on the paper

Possible Cause:
The black guide rollers in the "back" of the printer may have melted.
To check, open hatch at the back of the printer, which would normally cause
the paper to exit there, instead of curling around the top. Feel around the
egress with your fingers. You should feel a roller bar with black rubber(?)
wheels on it. If the wheels can be permanently deformed by touch (they feel
kind of like taffy), then that is the cause of the black marks and the
jamming. Unfortunately, no one posted a solution when I posted this.

Otha - many thanks for responding: I'll check this (just dashing out now!)
but the problem is intermittent: only seems to happen after the printer has
been switched on for a while. Would have thought melted rollers would cause
a continuous jam, rather than an intermittent one. Was that your
experience? Andrew

.....meaning that it is now quite warm.

Ohhhhhhh yes. It will depend on how the wheels deform. The condition
started as intermittent. Then, black streaks ran across the page. I
thought it was some toner issue, until I got 99% jams.

Sound like you need to replace the fuser delivery rollers. Take a look
here http://www.all-laser.com/error2.html#6P and see if this is your
problem.
