Hi,

We have a number of Vectra VL 400s in our computer that shutdown and restart
(not BSOD). Has anyone else had a simular problem and, if so, how did you
resolve it?

Thanks,

Richard A.

I had only one and found that the CPU or mainboard was causing it. HP puts
a passive heatsink on these and I believe it gets too hot and starts
rebooting. I base this on test I have done such as:

1. Put another known good CPU of equal speed from and different style PC in
the VL400 unit and it continued to reboot. 2. Put equal CPU from
rebooting VL400 into other unit of different style and it ran fine with no
problems.
3. The unit the known good CPU came from did not nor does not now
experience rebooting problems of any kind.
4. Put a "Super Cooler" fan on the VL400 CPU that was rebooting and it made
no difference (this one really confused me unless it is the mainboard).
5. Checked voltage output on power supply and found no problem.
6 Put a less powerful CPU (which generates less heat) in the VL400 system
and it runs like it should.

This lead me to believe the CPU and/or the mainboard was overheating causing
the reboots.
May not be the problem but I am convinced it is related.
