View Full Version : HP Scanjet 5P software

I recently decided to do something which I regretted big time today.
I thought it would be a good idea to transfer my installation disks for my
HP Scanjet 5p onto my hard drive to make any future installations a bit
quicker.
I made a number of fatal errors. I thought it would be a good idea to create
sub-folders for each installation disk and then proceeded to be sloppy with
the old drag and drop. This resulted in the contents of at least two disks
being copied into one of the folders. I tried to install PaperPort but when
it asked for the 2nd disk, it expects a floppy and doesn't give the option
to browse my hard drive.
I also didn't make a note of the serial number. This isn't a problem as HP
give a number on their website.
Does anyone know what files were on each disk or know where I find the
information?
Cheers
Andy

Why don't you just start over from scratch and copy the disks again?

I threw them away. D'oh!
Thought that if they were on my hard drive, I could eventually put them on a
CD with other installation software and get rid of a load of floppies.

Can you download the software from HP? I used to for my 3300 scanner.

I've had a good look around the HP site and it keeps going around in
circles - very frustrating.
I've also tried the Visioneer site to no avail.

Go to www.hp.com.
Click on 'Support and Drivers'
Check the 'Download Software and Drives circle. Enter Scanjet 5p in the
search box. Click on the >>.
Click on your scanner which I would assume is the 'PC' version.
Click on your OS. When you are at this screen, there are also a numberof
things you can look at specific to your scanner.
Download the software.

Download DeskScan II from HP's website. It's a better product than what
originally came with the 5P. You won't find Paper Port on HP's site. You can
find it at www.scansoft.com, but it's not free. Version 9 is far superior to
the earlier version that came with the 5P.

You could use windows explorer-(if set up to view details) and note the "time" when each file was
transfered/modified.. that might give you a clue as to what files were added AFTER the original set
was copied. You could sort the list by date/time modified- and see what the last file from disk 1
was and the first from disk 2 (they should list alphabetically).
