View Full Version : Linksys PSUS4 Incompatible with HP Photosmart 7550

I buy a lot of Linksys products and have been very happy with them, so
I did not hesitate to pick up one of these for my HP Photosmart 7550.
However, after a couple days of not being able to print (yes I updated
to the latest firmware, etc. etc.), I called tech support at Linksys
and was informed that the PSUS4 is NOT compatible with my printer. I
do not know if this problem extends to the entire Photosmart line or
not.
Interestingly, Linksys knows this, but does NOT provide this
information on their website (the tech support technician said it was
an "internal-only document"). I suggested that they post this info, as
it seems rather underhanded not to make people aware of known issues.
Beware.

It's equally underhanded that HP does not make any compatibility statements
either. The more I go on in this business, the more I realize that HP wants to
lock you into using their products and their products only. Perfectly
functional, but less expensive, products be damned.
It all started with LaserJet memory, for which you can pay HP a pretty penny or
install perfectly good third-party stuff. Then there's the inkjet cartridge
fiasco, about which there are lawsuits going on. It all started way further
back, with HP's mindset and bias toward highly proprietary and expensive
hardware, now rendered obsolete.
Bottom line is that HP expects you to use a JetDirect unit with your printer.
