Hi.
I have an HP laserjet 5L with the input board burned. I see the 20
pins ST chip over the centronics connector that is burned, but
unfortunately i can't read which chip is.
Can anyone give me this info ?
The printed circuit number is:
C3942-80001 REV.A
Thank You

Alberto,
With a printer as cheaply made as the 5L, your best possibility to repair it
yourself is to find another one, remove its input board and replace the one in
your 5L. These printers also suffer from lots of paper feed problems, so people
tend to give up on them and throw them away. So look for a discarded one
somewhere in your country.
IF HP had the part in stock, they would ask you to pay a small fortune for the
replacement part... Ben Myers

Thank You very much Ben for Your answer.
The problem is little and big in the same time. I know that bit 2 of
data bus don't work (it is always ZERO). I opened the printer and i
found the chip burned, but i can't read the number of the chip (i can
read that it is a ST chip, it is 20 pins SMD, but anything else).
So if someone have a similar printer (or if someone work in an HP
service repair shop), can give me this chip code (i hope).
About the paper feed problem, i know it, and my printer has the same
problem.
But i feel my printer, and so ....
Thx again.

Try to find an abondoned L5 and use that.
Sorry can't help you any further.
For the paper problem HP has a solution for that.
It is originally meanth for the Lj6 and 1100 but it also works for the Lj5,
called the Laserjet Sepkit.
A simple sticker to be applied into the printer, after that it works fine.
Succes

I would discourage any attempts at replacing a chip on a board. Modern cricuit
boards are made with very sophisticated factory processes. Desoldering a failed
chip and resoldering a replacement chip is likely to ruin the circuit board
unless you have access to the best of tools.
As I stated earlier, you are far more likely to be successful to replace the
board which has the failed chip.
If your printer suffers from paper jam problems, it may be best to replace the
printer, too. The 5L, 6L, and 1100 have a terrible reputation for paper jams.
The free kit once provided by HP to ameliorate the feeding of paper is the
bizarre result of a class-action lawsuit brough against HP by customers who
claimed these printers were defective.
In short, the printer is not worth repairing... Ben Myers
