Help! When I turn on my Hp Pavilion 500, I get a black screen with the
words, "operating system not found." What can I do?

Tom,

There are any number of possible causes, but the easiest one to try is a
replacement battery for the motherboard. The battery keeps the charge up in the
motherboard CMOS, where the hard drive and other settings are maintained when
the system is powered down. For most motherboards, an inexpensive 3v Lithium
coin-type C2032 battery will do it.

If a battery does not fix it, there are other diagnoses to do... Ben Myers

Thanks for the advice! I turned off and unplugged everything, then
plugged it back in and the darn thing came on perfectly. Strange.
