View Full Version : HP-compatible DVD-/+RW drives?

I'm trying to buy my son an internal DVD-/+RW drive that will be compatible
with his Pavillion a250n. One drive I purchased just didn't cut it: No
matter how he tried, it would only write DVD+R format, despite it being a
dual format drive. The other problem was that the unit's eject button didn't
align properly with the Pavillion's faceplate eject button, so that the
drive could only be opened via the software.

What dual-format DVD drives, other than HP-brand, has anyone found to be
compatible with this system, particularly in terms of writing both -/+
formats? I'm not too concerned about aligning the eject button with the
faceplate, though this would be nice, too...

Actually, I just found an HP notice indicating that all their drives support
only the +RW format (not -RW). Does this mean any 3rd party -RW drive I use
(internal or external) will also not write -RW format?

NEC 1300A will handle about any format. I bought one a month ago for
$136. I saw them recently for $120.
