The following page from the HP web site is about as much as you'll ever get out
of HP, well-known for the minimal technical information on its web site:

http://h20015.www2.hp.com/en/document.jhtml?reg=&plc=&lc=en&cc=us&prodId=hppavilion18856&docName=bph05116&cat=prodinfo

First, this page indicates that the motherboard uses the Intel 810 chipset. You
can obtain both motherboard chipset and graphics drivers for this chipset from
www.intel.com .

Second, I would assume that the fastest possible processor for this motherboard
is a 533MHz Socket 370 Celeron. A faster 766MHz flip-chip Celeron may be
possible using an expensive PowerLeap adapter, but I would not bet on it. Any
processor upgrade would offer a minimal boost in performance and would probably
not be worth the time and money.

Third, if you want to do something to improve the system's responsiveness at
minimal cost, install a pair of 128MB PC100 non-ECC DIMMs as the system memory.
I am surprised that the HP web site states that the board is limited to 256MB.
Most 810 chipset boards have a 512MB limit.

Fourth, the modem is a "PCI soft modem". You may need to examine the chipset
to find modem drivers.

Next, sound is via a "Crystal audio chip". You may need to find the chip on the
motherboard and look for drivers for the specific model of chip.

Next, the system has 3 PCI slots and 2 ISA slots, no AGP slot. Any upgrade of
graphics capability with a PCI card would have minimal speed improvement for the
money spent.

Finally, the system has two USB ports. Because of the age of the system, they
meet the USB 1.1 spec, not the newer USB 2.0.

As always, you have to look elsewhere for drivers for an HP Pavilion, not on the
HP web site. And on-line manuals do not exist there, either.

That's about all I can tell you... Ben Myers
