Hi,

I have a client who has been using qbooks 6 as a POS for the past couple of
years.

She has a rather massive inventory, the file is extremely large (>50MB). We
tried condensing the company file, but condensing doesn't get rid of old
invoices, which make up the bulk of the file.

Last week we had quite a scare, when the file got corrupted. With the help
of a hex editor, a few tips from blocktax.com, and the previous day's backup
(we backup daily!!!), I was able to recreate the lost day's work.

Now, however, I'm scrambling to get a real POS system, but until then, I'm
thinking of whipping up a quick app (I'm a programmer) just to ring up
customers (we have everything fully barcoded). From a development
perspective, a program to just read barcodes, update inventory, and print a
receipt, isn't exactly rocket science, however, I have a few non-programming
questions here...

As I'm thinking about the POS design, I've been reading qbooks help re.
entering daily sales summaries into it every night.

I'd love to just enter sales summaries daily in qbooks and remove the
inventory from it, but how would that affect the Purchase Orders issuing and
receiving of merchandise? What about the balance sheet if there's no
inventory in qbooks?

How is this handled by POS programs that interface with qbooks?

Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated!!!!!

Alex
