View Full Version : Portfolio View- Q2002- How to "hide" items with zero balances
My portfolio view is cluttered up with all sorts of items I have
already sold that I don't want to see.
I can't just uncheck those items from the options box; if I show a
portfolio fiew for a prior date when they did exist in my portfolio,
they will not show. I simply want Quicken to not show me items which
have 0 balances for whatever the selected date.
Is there a way to tell it to do so?

What specific "view" and "Group by" are you referring to.
It's not clear just what "items" are (I assume you have "sold"
securities, but the term "balances" isn't usually associated
with "securities"; "cost" or "value" maybe).
Quicken defaults to *not* showing closed lots so you should not
be seeing securities that you own no shares of unless you have
altered the option to show those closed lots.
Quicken does not have an option to hide "items" based on their
"balances"; "items" here referring to things like "accounts",
"security type", "asset class", etc.

John:
I am looking at the Portfolio View (Ctrl+U), Group by: Accounts, View:
Portfolio Value. A number of the accounts have shares = blank, market
value = 0.00.
In your third paragraph ("Quicken defaults to *not* showing ...UNLESS
YOU HAVE ALTERED THE OPTION..." [caps are mine]), how can I alter the
option (or unalter it)?

It simply isn't helping. The "Show Closed Lots" was not checked.
Here is what the view I get looks like (numbers edited so as to not
burden you with my actuals):

Sometimes, Quicken's left hand thinks there are no shares owned
while its right hand thinks there is some tiny fraction of a
share owned. This can happen if you have allowed Quicken to
compute the number of shares in buy type transactions. (It can
also happen for some other reason, unknown to me).
And sometimes there is no fix for the problem. But you can try
going in to the register where the sales occurred, and enter a
Share Balance adjustment transaction (dated on or one day after
the final sale transaction) to adjust the share balance to zero.

Thanks for your efforts, John. The zero balance is something I had
already tried to take care of in the past, but just for good measure I
tried it again and repeatedly got the "No adjustment required"
message.
It looks like a "no fix" situation. Again, thanks for trying.
