Hello. I've recently bought a combo CD drive from LG, model GCC-4480B.
It can read most CDs just fine, CDRs, CDRWs and DVDs. However, it
can't read the CDs itself burned.

I know it's burning fine, since other CD drives can read the CDs
burned by my combo drive. I've tried this burn/read process in the
following scenarios:

1. Win98SE + Easy CD Creator 5.0 Basic
2. WinXP Pro + Nero Express

The process failed on both OS's, burning CDs that itself can't read
(but other drives can). I thought the drive had a malfunction, so I
exchanged it for a new one on the store where I bought it. However,
the very same problem happened with the new drive, just as before.
Today I found out there's nothing wrong with the drive, because I
installed it on another computer and it worked just fine, reading all
CDs, even those recorded by itself. So, the problem is with my
computer. Since the same reading problem happens on both Windows 98
and XP and even on DOS 7.10a, I'm convinced it's a hardware problem.
What to do?

My BIOS version is the latest avaliable on the MB's site. I've tryed
changing the IDE cable, changing the power cable (the 5V/12V one),
making the drive master and slave, none of those resulted in anything.

Please, help me. Here follows some info:

CD drive OEM: LG
CD drive model no: GCC-4480B
M/B OEM: Soyo
M/B model no: SY-6VBA133
System: Pentium III 700 MHz / 384MB RAM (DIMM)
OS's: Win98SE / WinXP Pro / DOS 7.10a

Thank you very much for your time & help.

Problem solved!

I downloaded and installed the firmware upgrade 1.02, and now the
GCC-4480B works just fine, reading even those CDRs it couldn't read
before. Such upgrade can be downloaded on the following URL:

Don't worry, those of us who do not live in the third world know
better than buying Korean electronics. Problem solved before
occuring in the first place.
