I just bought a used Pentium II 450 MHz computer, and I noticed that the ECC for the L2 cache was disabled in the BIOS settings. I would like maximum reliability, so I would like to enable the ECC, but I hesitate to do so if it was disabled in the first place as a workaround for a flaw in the processor. (I have read that disabling the ECC increases the system speed, but not by a noticable amount.) Is anyone aware of any advisaries from Intel to disable the L2 cache ECC? The montherboard is an intel SE440BX-2. Might there be an advisary regarding the L2 ECC and this motherboard? Thanks for any help.

Some of the older Pentium II's had non-ECC L2 cache. "Disabled" is the
default BIOS setting, and would allow the board to run with either, a
processor with non-ECC or a processor with ECC L2 cache.

Your 450 MHz Pentium II does support ECC in L2 cache. The previous user
probably never thought of turning it on. You can turn it on.
