View Full Version : Gravis Gamepad Pro eats CPU power

Processor: P2/350Mhz
Sound card: SB PCI.
Gravis Gamepad Pro is connected to the sound card.
The problem is that the game pad drivers eats a lot of CPU
power when the pad is in GRIP mode. When the grip mode is
switched off it doesn't eat cpu. But then I cannot use all
of the buttons of the pad. This happens in ALL games even
if they don't use the game pad.
Newest drivers are installed (Xperience 4.5).
I've heard similar problems from other GamePad Pro users,
but haven't heard any solution so far.. Does anyone know
any solution to drop down the cpu usage?

What games are you trying to play? Best solution, update your
motherboard,cpu & memory.

An example would be ZSNESW. Works fine without the pad.
Same problem in many more programs/games too.

Not an option in this case.
The game pad requires 60MHz processor and 16MB ram
(the box says). This computer has 350MHz processor
and 128MB of 133MHz ram (runs at 100mhz). So there is
definitely something wrong somewhere.
More detailed information: it seems that the game pad
causes some "quick" cpu hangs few times of second.
Most of time the cpu works at full speed but few times
in a second a couple of frames are dropped. This even
varies a little: in some seconds there are no hang-ups
at all but sometimes there are much of those. This can
be seen very well in ZSNESW when pressing F1 becouse of
the blanking screen "animation".
Anyway, the problem is really a problem since some games
with a scrolling screen just look awful when the pad is on.

I found the reason.
The new drivers (xperience 4.5) doesn't work well.
I installed older xperience (2.1) and it works much better :)
