View Full Version : Logitech Mouseware - Sluggish mouse wheel?
maybe that setting of 200mhz is the culprit have you tried the default
values yet?

news:QP61b.118617$ib2.26004967@twister.neo.rr.com... I just got a new Logitech MX500 mouse, and I love it. Very precise. I tried an MS Trackball Explorer and the thing was junk. It could barely track in a straight line, let alone attempting fine detailed work with it. Anyway, on to the problem. I'm running the Logitech Mouseware 9.70 software, and everything's great except for the scroll wheel. It's very sluggish. There's a noticeable delay between moving the wheel and what I see on the screen. It's almost as if the CPU were overburdened, but it's not. I tested out the mouse in Linux and the wheel works great. Nice and zippy. I also tried this application called "mousemute" to temporarily disable MouseWare. http://www.snarksoft.com/ When MouseWare is disabled, the scroll wheel works great. (though I lose the ability to use the back/forward and other extra buttons that the mouse has) So, I'd say that pretty much points to the Mouseware software being the cause of the problem. Has anybody else seen this problem? Is there some setting I have that's wrong? I've heard of people using the Intellimouse software with the mouse. If I switch to that, will I lose any functionality? For example, I have MouseWare set up to use a 200Hz PS/2 sampling rate. (for smoooooth tracking!) Thanks! -WD

Good idea, but that's not the case. Switching to the default value has
no effect. The wheel is still sluggish.
There's an application that I used under Win9x called PS2Rate Plus. You
could set the sample rate and it also had a utility to determine the
current rate. When using MouseMute to disable Mouseware, I checked it
and the sample rate remains at 200Hz. (and the wheel works great)
Unfortunately, PS2Rate doesn't work under Win2k. And the Win2k device
manager properties for the PS/2 port only allow up to 100Hz.

OK, I think I've got it. I've upgraded from Mouseware 9.70 to 9.78, and
the scrolling seems to work well now.
Gee, how many versions did they put out before they got scrolling right?!

Yep, finaly after about 4 years of poorly functioning wheelmouse drivers,
ver 9.78 finaly works properly. I've used Logitech mice for years now but
always had to use the MS drivers as the scroll wheel would never work
properly, erratic scrolling in apps and mostly wouldn't work at all in games
such as Half-Life.
Not like they didn't know as I e-mailed their support many times about it
and I'm sure many others have also. But thank The rodent gods they finaly
got it at last, Anyway I like their products and will continue to use them.
