I've tested both personally and a P4 chips with the same rated speed as an AMD renders clips in vegas video twice as fast. Please, please convince me that I should stay with AMD. Thanks. Why? If you want to save money, buy an AMD but for your application it's the wrong choice.

Perhaps he should consider an Opteron based system, or
wait for Athlon 64? Amd released a new set of Opteron processors
today.

"The AMD Opteron processor 100 Series is targeted at 1P server applications,
such as those used by Internet and application service providers, and intensive
workstation applications such as engineering and digital content creation
software."

http://www.amd.com/us-en/Corporate/VirtualPressRoom/0,,51_104_543~72268,00.html

"Motherboards based on the AMD Opteron processor Models 140, 142, and 144 are
expected to be available worldwide in July 2003 from ASUS with chipset support
from NVIDIA. Systems based on the AMD Opteron processor 100 Series are expected
to be available from such vendors as Angstrom MicroSystems and Boxx Technologies
in the third quarter of 2003. "

"Also in 1,000-unit quantities, the AMD Opteron processor Model 140 is $229, the
AMD Opteron processor Model 142 is $438 and the AMD Opteron processor Model 144
is $669."

Go ask in the rec.video groups and find out what those guys say. Too many AMD zealots that never have done any editing here! BTW I use and sell both platforms, just think in this type of use AMD's aren't that great. -- Stacey

What do these model numbers mean in terms of traditional CPU labels
(GHz, equivalent ratings, whatever)? The article didn't specify, and
AMD's pricing page didn't have any details either.

Where are the benchmarks that show how well these work with already coded
SSE2 video apps? I've read where opterons have problems with spome software
that isn't specifically coded for it's version of SSE2.

And what is the cost of an opteron based system compared to a P4 of the same
speed rating/performance in avalible video apps?

I'm really not interested in being the "test dummy" when P4's are well known
to work well with present video apps.
