View Full Version : DDR266 memory with FSB333 allowed?

Hi all.

I'm going to build a new system for my folks. They are not power users, so
I'm thinking of getting a mid-level Athlon XP 2600 or 2700 with a VIA
KT333 or KT400 chipset (or comparable other chipset, if you guys can
recommend something for me). Thing is, I still have some 512 MB of DDR266
memory gathering dust.

Can I use DDR266 (133 MHz) memory with a processor running at 166 or 200
MHz FSB? (I assume there would be a performance penalty, which will be
acceptable for now, but WILL THE SYSTEM RUN STABLY?)

If any of you have had interesting experiences with any of these newer
chipsets (VIA, NVidia, SiS) at 333 MHz FSB and beyond, or good deals on
gear, please let me hear from you. Thanks a lot!
