View Full Version : The SOI might actually save 90nm

With all of the talk about 100W Prescotts, AMD's 90nm chips may actually
come in in the 30-40W range because of SOI. It would be interesting to see
what Intel does to reduce power consumption without SOI. It also doesn't
help that Intel is running its processors at 3Ghz+ while AMD is only running
its at 2Ghz+; it means that AMD can only keep raising the frequency to match
Intel's power consumption, but Intel can't lower frequency to match AMD's
power consumption.
