Hello....well, where do i begin? I need help!

(sorry if you're getting this in a few newsgroups...but I want as much
opinion as I can get! At least i didn't cross-post...)

In a ridiculous bout of late-night hihg-end gaming drooling....I've
been contemplating upgrading my graph card. So...any good websites that have good benchmarking? If they're Australian geared, I'll love you to death. What's the best card for me to get? One with nVidia chip sets? How big? 128mb? Larger? Can I get away with smaller? <snip>

Meh...so I've just been a-researching (at tomshardware.com).

It looks like the FX 5700 and the ATO Radeon 9600 XT are on a par...BUT

should i be looking at maybe the ATI Radeon 9600 Pro? It's the precursor
to
the XT, but info seems to suggest that it'll do the job just as well as
the
XT.

It's clear to me that the ATIs are better than the GeForces...especially

with FSAA and anti-stropic configs...

mynehh.....i dunno what to do!!!

Based on perfermance, I'd probably go the ATI, but then nVidia has
established security in the 'gameworld' (what th.com calls 'contacts').
I'm
also concerned about getting a chip/card that's gonna be bunk in only a
short time. Mind you, these chips were released very recently, so they
should last a while.

I guess it's a toss-up between performance now, and ongoing reliability
and
integration. ATI have good performance now, but nVidia seem to be more
likely to have ongoing integration.

Like I said, am i better off getting one of the previous/ lower models
with
similar results to the above chips? (except the FX 5600 Ultra, to which
the
FX 5700 is far superior it would seem).

Then there's the new XGI range!!! They're cheaper, and offer comparable
quality...but are they trustworthy and reliable?

And then, if I get an nVidia chip...what actual card should I get?

I think I need to go and talk to some geeky computer person (hey...I
_am_ a geeky computer person....well sort of)...*sigh*

But please help me!

At this stage, I'm leaning towards the ATI Radeon 9600XT...but like I
said,
the Pro works fine (heck...just the standard works fine, too, i'm
told!).
But then I am concerned the GeForce FX 5700 Ultra is going to last
longer
(or the GeForce FX 5700).

I also need to get some prices.

*sigh*

thanks everyone
