Some more interesting stuff here. No confirmation of 64-bit extensions yet,
but it does seem like it's getting revenue from vendors already for this
chip:

Nice, but I wish they'd get them out.

I'd like to upgrade my P4C 2.6.

Yousuf, now that everybody and his dog understands the difference
between sampling and production shipments, and is wary of "paper
releases" where announcement of product results in no shipments, the
marketeers have had to come up with a new way to gull the public.

The new way is called "shipping for revenue", which is distinct from
sampling because engineering samples are free. Shipping 5 parts, and
getting paid for them, counts. If the gullible public interprets that
as 100K+ parts sold, no skin off the marketeers' noses. "Paper
release? Who, us?" ;-)

You are such a cynic. They probably have several thousand chips on
their way to McMurdo Station, Antarctica right now, by way of
outrigger canoe and dog sled. If they don't make it by March, of
course (that gives them just eight weeks, you know), those chips could
still be in transit next October, when the weather breaks again.

I don't think that this is entirely a "new" tactic, AMD and Intel have
been doing this for a while now. Intel has been a little bit more
vocal about their "shipping for revenue" this time around then they
usually are, but it's hardly they first time they've used the term. I
think that AMD still holds the award for the most loudest yelling
about revenue shipping for their initial Athlon release. There was a
good month or two when they were shouting and dancing about how they
were selling the first Athlons to OEMs before they actually "released"
the chip (and that ended up being a bit of a paper launch even at
that, though mainly due to the fact that you couldn't buy motherboards
for the chips so no one bothered selling them).

Robert, I have the sad duty to report that the shipment in question
was eaten by the dogs drawing the sled. Then one of those pesky packs
of polar bears that hang around McMurdo ate the dogs.

It was a killer whale breaking his way up through the ice on McMurdo Sound.
The polar bears did, however, contract out the hit from their base at the
other pole.

At south pole, it's likely the pack of cannibal penguins that did the dogs
in.

No, that was the penguins with their voice disguised as a polar
bear to throw off Ashcroft and the Patriot Act.

Wouldn't they have preferred to eat each other?

Maybe it was just one very hungry cannibal penguin?

All of these animals eating animals is starting to sound like a
turducken. Never had one, saw one on TV, don't really care to try.

Who will end up dying from the Penguin version Creutzfeldt-Jakob, or
some other brain wasting disease.

Wrong. The shipment arrived at my aunt's place, but unfortunately she did
mistake it for her shipment of tiles for her bathroom.
