I'm trying to install a second internal HD on my cube in order to copy OpenStep to it. All very new to me so please tolerate the vague terminology to follow ...
I attached the second HD to what I presume are the SCSI cable and power cable for a second HD. Entering the bsd command yielded a "bad version" message. So I compared termination (?) (placement of the little blk plastic bits on end of the HD opposite the cable connectors) and moved around those on the second HD until they matched those on the first HD. BTW, the first HD, when installed alone, boots successfully into OpenStep.
After this termination change on the second HD, when I enter bsd command, there is a pause, then the message "didn't complete", pause, didn't complete. Apparently would just go on that way ... but I powered down. Tried again. Same deal. So I've posted here for ideas or pointers to docs. I've searched this forum on the message "didn't complete" with no luck.
Got it to boot to OpenStep after moving one of the black bits (jumper?) on the second HD from pins 3,4 to 5,6. At least I think that's the positions used based on trying to interpret the config diagram of my drive provided online by Seagate.
Now I'll try copying the OS with the disk utility in OpenStep.
So ... now the cube appears to try to boot from the second HD in response to the cmd:
bsd(1,0,0)sdmach rootdev=sd1
But it sticks at the line"
starting rpc and network services: portmap netinfo
while attempting to boot, it notes that the network is disabled, which makes sense given that the cube is not connected to a network. But the same is true when successfully booting from the first internal drive.
