Seems to me a lot of companies are using the freeware community to develop/debug their products, then they drop the free part or restrict the products.
Yahbut let's not attack the GOOD guys. EPIM has posted about the free
version of EssentialPIM several times - here's one such post:
On the other hand there is now a $war€ version of Ess.PIM, after they experimented with a freeware version. So one must fear for the continuation of the free version in the long run.
there is not need to worry. We strongly state, that, as before, EPIM
Free will be developed along with the Pro version. Releases of new
versions of "Free" and "Pro" will go hand in hand, adding new features.
For those who believes in power of money- we do not believe that
discontinuation of a Free version will bring us more paid clients.
We also love developing Free version, alghough it might sound strange
nowadays.

ALSO NOTE: As a service to the ACF community Epim hosted the ISO of the
PL2005 CD on their web site when it first came out and demand was high.

I requested a free key for the Pro-version but while I was waiting I tested the Freeware version and found it did all I needed. I'm using it now to replace SideKick99. Hi Vic, Could I twist your arm and ask you to write up a short review of the freeware version? I'd like to get a user's opinion for an upcoming newsletter.
I'm not very good at writing reviews, but I would like to point out
that both the EssentialPIM Freeware (a lite version of the Pro
version) and the Pro version itself come in two flavors: DeskTop and
Portable. The Portable version of both is what I tried. They do not
require an "install" and work well on a USB drive; so you can take it
with you.
To use either portable version, just unzip into the desired directory
and set up a shortcut to the executable. You can also run it from the
command line. While I was waiting for the free key to the Pro version,
I started using the Freeware version and found that it had all that I
needed to replace SideKick99. When I received the free key to the Pro
version, I simply extracted the Pro version executable from the zip
file and put it in the same directory as the freeware. Of course, I
renamed the executables first so I could tell them apart.
The free key comes in an .ini file. I extracted the name and key from
the .ini file and manually entered them into the Pro version via the
Help menu.
They both worked fine in the same directory using the same data files.
Here is a comparison of the Freeware/Pro version features.

Did anyone actually recieve a free licence. I applied and got nothing. According to their website I must have : used wrong or anti-spam protected email, which required manual input or used non-existing name to register their forum also has people posting that got no licence. How convenient that all these people used wrong email addresses. Seems to me a lot of companies are using the freeware community to develop/debug their products, then they drop the free part or restrict the products. I realise developing software is time consuming but can't help but feel used.
It took a full day plus a few hours to get mine. I used my public
(Hotmail) address rather than a one-time throwaway.
Just a guess on my part, but the problem with anti-spam protected
email may have something to do with the EPIM team's decision to limit
free keys to "one per IP address."
I think if they knew in advance they were not going to send keys to
spamgourmet and similar addresses, it should have been more clearly
spelled out in the offer, but I doubt there was a sinister motive
involved.
I downloaded the portable version, which works just fine from my
desktop hard drive for now, and it appears I can port the whole
directory to a USB stick later (if and when I decide to get one.)
That said, there's not a whole lot of difference between the
"freeware" and "pro" versions for my purposes, which are pretty basic.
The freeware version is still available and IMHO fully functional for
the majority of users. If you haven't already tried it, you might
want to take a look to see if it will meet your needs.

I applied for a free licence for Essential PIM Pro with just one valid
email ID soon after the offer time began but I did not get any
authorisation.
Before I joined this group I had downloaded the Free version. I liked
it for several reasons and indeed had some soft corner for it in my
heart. Now I feel let down with an offer that never fructified.

Interesting info about pheromones used to attract opposite sex.. Pheromones are chemicals emitted by living organisms to send messages to individuals of the same species. During the past 40 years pheromones of hundreds of insect species have been chemically elucidated, including the sex pheromone of the codling moth. Its main component is (E,E)-8,10-dodecadien-1-ol, a primary alcohol containing a straight chain of 12 carbons and two conjugated double bonds
