the oudside of a photograph over a few millimeters go to white (a bit a misify effect around the photograph) I tried with using an ellips clipping mask, but the outside stayed sharp. Thanks for your kind help, Eddy Jordens
Photoshop my friend.

Or, in Illustrator, you can try applying an Opacity Mask using a radial
gradient. (if I understand your question correctly)

Maybe I am wrong but I do not believe you can get the raster to fade
away in Illustrator, that is what I understand he/she wants. Maybe a
nice screen effect, but not for printing.

I've used the "feather" effect in printing . . . it fades the borders
of an image or artwork quite nicely.
But then, I have a good relationship with my printer, so even if it's a
pain in the rear, he'll manage to get it done without complaints!

Like Inez said, you can with an Opacity Mask & a radial gradient. But
yes, i'd do it all in PS.

I tried an oval Blend (smooth color) as an opacity mask and it looked pretty
good. Seems like it *should* be OK if it works easier for a layout than
going back and forth from PS. You'd, what, rasterize or flatten transparency
(either one?) to finalize, right?
After you apply the elipse [or any other desired shape] clipping mask,
keeping image and clipping mask selected, go to menu item EFFECT > STYLIZE >
FEATHER. A dialog box will pop up and you can adjust the amount of mist to
get it where you want it. Check the 'preview' box to see the effect.

Thanks to you all for your kind help.
I could arrange it with Photoshop, and Gem, I tried your solution and this
worked perfectly too.
Thanks again,
Eddy
