Default transparency problem

Hi all,

let's say I have a simple filled red square in Illustrator CS2 with a 2
point border of the same color. I want to add some transparency to the
inside of the square but not to the border. How do I do that ?

thank you,

Pluton

Dupe the object, de-stroke the fill(ed), de-fill the stroke(d), set
transparency on the filled object, then arrange the stroked one atop it.

Will in not work (in the practical sense) to select the Fill in the
Appearance palette and set Transparency for it alone, leaving the Stroke at
Normal transparency? Illy 9.0.2 allows it, for what that's worth. Not sure
if it's a proper practice though:\

Thank you for this advice. That's waht I was doing before asking the
question.
Considering just one object, It looks like it is possible to add
transprency to filled aera without modifying the stroke : I think I did
it but I do not know how : it was pure luck !
