Default B/W doesn't boot

Hello,

I have a really strange problem, maybe someone hast got THE hint others
yet had not :-/

First my machine: a B/W (first revision) upgraded with a sonnett G4/500,
a ATA-133 IDE controller-card and a Samsung 250 GB harddisk. OS 10.3.9.

This worked and worked and worked ... and suddenly didn't work anymore.
When I started the apple came but nothing went on.

I booted from CD and made again a combo update 10.3.9. After that once
the harddisk started again. Yes. The drive utility didn't find any
problems.

The next day everything was the same again, so I decided to put back a
very old 6GB Quantim Fireball into the machine, connected it to the old
internal (unused) ATA-33 bus, started with CD, put a fresh system on it.
Perfect. This works. This harddisk even works when connected to the IDE
controller-card. So it seems that there are no problems with THAT.

The next thing was to try Techtool pro: absolutely NO problems, it said
:-/. Well, I thought, maybe maybe the system has a problem. So I decided
the reinsall with archiving the current system.

But, again, NO boot! This drives me crazy! All utilities say the
harddisk has absolutely nor problems, an old hd boots (machine semms to
work), it even boots with the card (card seems to be okay). I even
connected the 250 GB drive to the internal bus, though this won't be
able to manage such a big disc, but I wanted to see if there are any
specialities with the SMART data ... no, nothing, everything is alright.

So the next thing would/should be to kill the complete disc and reformat
it. But due to it is expensive to buy a second one to make the copies -
and just for a consideration, nothing more ... so I wonder CAN the disk
have any problems on that (low) level if no program shows any?!

Or does anybody have an idea what could be that hoodoo curse on my
machine? Since three days everything is chaos :-(

Thanks in advance.

B. Alabay

Basar,

Tell us more. What do you see when you get "no boot"? What happens? Have
you replaced the motherboard battery?
