You can flash a lot of PC ATI cards with Mac roms.

I have heard that (being a Mac newbie-extreme), but how is that
done? Maybe the better question is where does one get the Mac
image to put on the card, and then how do you flash it?

Many thanks for ANY info / pointers.

phil

Look in the "Mac Video Card Flashing" section of
<http://strangedogs.proboards40.com>

Most Mac firmware needs 128K EROM, but most PC video cards only have a
64K chip. Sometime the chip can be changed, but it is not easy. For
some cards people have made 64K versions of the firmware, but some
functions (usually display during booting) won't work, and you won't be
able to install any normal Mac firmware updates.

All the PC video cards flashed for Mac that I have seen for sale had at
least one function not working. Usually they would not work at full
resolution on the DVI port.

Thanks VERY much for the great info (though I must
admit, the StrangeDogs link surprised me...)

Treat the StrangeDogs site just for information on what things people
are trying. I have seen several threads on the Apple discussion board
from people very unhappy with purchases of flashed boards from people
at that site and from some of the same people (sometimes, apparently,
under different names) via eBay. The accusations range from slow
delivery, to defective boards, to fraud. I have no way of evaluating
this, but be careful.

I have looked at some descriptions of flashed boards on eBay. The ones
I was interested in seemed to have complete descriptions, including
what features didn't work correctly (and all of them had something that
didn't work), so at least they weren't trying to be deceptive.
