Whilst I do recall that the Castle IDE interface was unusual in being ADFS, I'm not sure that it used !HForm. Can anyone who has a Castle IDE interface confirm this or not?
I've already said so elsewhere in this thread. Yes, it does.
So I assume that they tell you to do a hard reset after fitting the card. The other thing I remember from the A3000 was always to turn off the machine before plugging in or unplugging anything to it. I learned this the hard way having had to have both the video interface and the serial port replaced. Alan
I followed standard anti-static procedures throughout, and did definitely
have the computer disconnected from the mains whilst performaing the
upgrade.
I'm happy enough to accept that the interface is b0rked. Any info. On the
"Thor" SCSI podule that I've purchased off eBay? (I think I can get away
with this in the context of the thread)
Pushing way beyond the on-topicness though... Any info. On how to rewire
mini-podules to work on the external expansion bus? I haven't got the
technical reference for my A3000, so I don't have any pinouts at all for the
machine.

I'm afraid I've come to the conclusion the interface is broken. The disc errors, scrambled description and firmware strings, and the number too big error, suggests that its either not reading the drive, or getting junk back. I think, sadly, that must be the case. Either way I'm out of options.
I also bought a Castle A30x0 IDE interface from ebay and it came sealed with
a Seagate 130MB Marathon 130sl (ST9150AG). The drive is a laptop 2.5"
powered via the interface, I don't know how your drives are powered but is
the power supply adequate. My interface worked happily in an A3000 when I
tested it.

Luckily I've won an auction for a SCSI adapter on eBay. And guess what? It's a RARE one! (snigger): http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI....60030602418&rd= 1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT&rd=1 Does anyone have any experience with these?
Not yet but I also won one on ebay, can't find any documentation for it, but
haven't tested it yet. Let me know how you get on.

Can other "normal" podules be used on the A3000's 8-bit expansion slot?
If you mean the Expansion bus at the back, yes, I have run several "normal"
podules on it. Also some made for the A3000, like the HCCS SCSI HardCard.
It's a nostalgia thing, but if anyone has an A7000+ or RiscPC they want to offload I'll be happy to cross your palm with silver.
I have an RPC left from my RO collection trimming process which is still up
for grabs.
Single slice. ARM710, RO3.60, 8MB + 1MBVRAM, 210MB HD, FD, i-Cubed 10b2/T
NIC, 2 slot back plane, Cumana 16bit SCSI podule with PowerROM (original ROM
also supplyed in case you want to return it to original state). The front
curved cover has become detatched but is included, a couple of nuts and a
longish bolt can be very effectively employed to fix this problem. The CD
ROM blanking plate has been cut out (no drive) but is also included incase
you wish to glue it back or whatever.
Make me an offer if interested.
I also have a mate who's looking to offload an A7000+.

Sorry to follow my self up but if interested I'm located near Dunfermline
just North of Edinburgh but my paerants are driving down to Staffordshire
this afternoon so could take an RPC with them if this is any closer to you?
Would need to know before 13.00 /today/ though.

Really embarrassed to have missed this Mike - I've been away for a long
weekend. Thank you for such a kind offer. I'm still very much
interested in your RiscPC - what's the cheapest possible means of
posting it to me + whatever you consider appropriate for your time?
