Barcode is nothing but a way of using alternative input devices to scan
numbers into your computer. So you need software to generate the bar codes,
a printer (thermal or ink print), labels (many label sizes to choose from),
a scanner to read the bar codes, and also a way of correlating the item
codes in QuickBooks with the bar code software.
Now, most POS programs have all of this integrated, PLUS total inventory
control, customer information, gift cards, gift certificate, credit cards,
cash drawers, pole displays, receipt printers, multiple stores, etc. And I'm
not talking about the QBPOS. You might consider a POS program, or if not,
make sure you purchase hardware that is compatible once you do decide to go
that direction
Good luck

I am using QB Pro 2006. I have a small mom & pop musical instrument storewith about 500 items in inventory and have been thinking about usingbarcodes to enter inventory and at POS. I don't know anything about it atthis point. I've Googled and am under the impression that I'll need ascanner, scanner software and then import the information into QB. Doesanyone have experience with this and if so, what will I need to do this? Will it work with QB Pro 2006? Bob
