Default For American fans of the Risc OS

This is addressed to American fans of the Risc Os. Myself, I'm a Mac
guy, but I respect different os's, especialy the Risc OS.

There are two very interesting auctions going on on ebay, the first for
a two-slice Risc Pc 700 with 200mhz StrongArm

<A
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=012&item=220035508658&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1>

and the second for a cheap monitor that is compatible with it

<A

The monitor auction ends tomorrow, so you will have to hurry.

Needless to say, I have absolutely no connexion with the sellers of
this equipment, but just thought that American fans of this OS deserve
all the help they can get.

I have a higher specced machine that I've got packaged up and had
promised to send to a Gentoo developer so he could port Gentoo to ARM
Linux, but hasn't got back to me (we're both in California). If he
doesn't get back to me soon, there's an excellent chance I'll be
donating it to one of the computer museums in the state (it's just about
old enough to qualify, and there's little British representation in such
museums, despite its importance to the history of computing).

I've got two more even higher specced RiscPCs sitting spare, and I'm not
sure what I'm going to do with; I'll probably sit on them until I find a
good use. My Iyonix and two Linux machines now do everything I need.

Wouldn't a chair be more comfortable?

Can't you afford chairs in the US? :-)

Cheers,

If you ever do talk to them, do you think they'd be interested in an
A310? I have one sitting in my basement. Still works... probably more
significant than the RiscPC, even if vastly less useful!

Well, you should certainly contact them yourself:

http://www.computerhistory.org/

I'm sure they'll be very interested. For UK people, in the first
instance you should contact Jules (e.g, on this group) at Bletchly Park,
but I expect his collection is now well represented WRT to Acorn
machines, but if you have any spare documentation, articles that aren't
too heavy to send, etc, etc, I'm sure the museum would be
interested in those too.

I should drop them a line. Looks like they have the Archimedes on their
wish list. This A310 is somewhat hacked-up, with extra memory, ARM3,
etc, but I'm sure I still have all the original bits in boxes somewhere,
back to the wonderful Arthur 0.3 ROMs and various manuals.
