Default Very slow USB

I've recently fitted a SIMTEC USB podule to SA RiscPC (48M + 2M)
running RO 4.02
I've loaded the software correctly (so far as I can tell), and have
loaded the SIMTEC software for the 64Mb MP3 memory stick.
When I plug the memory stick in, it is correctly identified, and the
contents of the memory stick eventually appear on screen.
Transfer speed is lethargic, and this may be due to two (visible)
problems.
On boot up I get an error message -

System Variable not found - USBDeviceDriver$Path (internal error code
120)

Also, when I type *USBDevices

one of the comments reads "Failed to open classes db file"

so it sounds like something is either missing or in the wrong place.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, since the current transfer rate
from or to the USB memory stick under RISC OS is approx 30Kb per
minute!
Note that under various PC USB computers the memory stick transfer
rate seems quite quick.

I can help with that. In Boot Choices Boot Predesk the SetUpUSB should
read thus or similar.
