I wonder how many users you have and how many bugs/issues are in the system? How can the system be so un-reliable, are you doing something not supposed to do? I once tried out their online demo, and the first impression was pretty good, but once start using it, I immediately found many problems, but mainly usability, not major. Here is a link: http://www.websina.com/bugzero/misc/devtrack.html
We have over 500 users and many thousands of bugs. The database is
customized, but it's customized within the limits of their
recommendations -- i.e. we use their custom fields, etc.
Are there any readers who might be interested in a DevTrack user group. I am considering starting one up in the San Diego area (Southern California), because I believe that we can have more visibility as to the real issues with this tool, and have a larger impact on how upgrades to the tool should be prioritized.
I think that DevTrack is a good tool with significant shortcomings, and a user group is one way to make it better. Defect Tracking tools (or Change Management tools) are a difficult corporate transition, as they often form the basis for the entire software development organization. Despite difficulties, there is no way we could go back to our old tool, nor change again this quickly. We'll have to make do with it.
A user group could provide a more specific forum for issues that arise. We could even have (semi)monthly webex sessions. If interested, send an email to: curtis.wilbur@hospira.com.
