I have a cube (68040 25 MHz) with no hard drive. I have a friend's
drive from which I will clone the OS and I'll buy the right drive on
ebay I suppose.
But how do I install the drive? Based on what I've found on the web, I
should install a 3.5" drive, yes? And in that case, I'll need a bracket
that allows me to do this in a 5.25" bay -- which presumably is what I
have in the cube? There are two brackets (at least they appear to be)
mounted on either side of the central cavity of the cube. Should the
drive sit in either of those spaces (i.e. between a bracket and the
wall of the cavity)?
Sorry for probably making a hash of the terminology. I'm in deep water.
But I got the GUI of the OS up yesterday with my friend's drive. So
cool to see!

The central power supply/drive bay assembly is wide enough to hold
5.25" devices. All of the brackets that I've seen used to mount 3.5"
devices in 5.25" bays go on either side of the 3.5" device, leaving it in
the centre of the bay.

I think this gives me enough understanding to find the bracket I need.
What I did was to take a 5.25 to 3.5 bracket from some old PC case. I
believe I had to drill holes in it to match those on the cube. (I didn't
want to alter the cube at all) It worked fine.
