Is there a ceiling on how many objects can be printed from a Corel
file? I have a large file with many curves and objects which draw fine
on-screen, but when I try to print, there are large blocks of blank
space on the plot. It is a complex document, printing at A0 size - does
anyone know how I can get all the objects to print? Thanks, Flaca.
What printer are you using and what version of Draw?
I don't think there is any limit to the number of objects in a drawing but
once it gets up to several thousand and above it will start taking a very
long time to open, redraw and print. You could try converting the whole
thing to a bitmap temporarily or Rasterize the entire page when you go to
print it (Misc. tab in print dialogue).

In addition to what Craig's mentioned, how much RAM does your printer have?
How large is your spool file? How many objects in the document?

I am printing on an HP DesignJet 800PS3, using Draw v12. It is
definitely large (36" x 24"), and takes ages to open/refresh/save, but
I have printed larger with no loss of data before. I will be regularly
editing & printing this document and would prefer to not have to
rasterize it - do you know of a "maximum objects limit" setting or
something that I could adjust? I increased my access to RAM but the
printing is still giving me trouble. I did successfully export to eps
then distilled as a pdf but if there's a setting I can adjust, it'd be
good to know where that is.

I have 1G of RAM, and my spool file is approximately 180MB. I don't
know exactly how many objects were in the document but it is a very
detailed map at a scale of 1:500,000, so I would estimate there are
upwards of 50,000 objects.

it could be a combination of things. 1GB on the printer, that's not too
bad - how much does the computer have? As for the spool, that sounds about
right - what do you have your pagefile on the computer set to (amount)?
As for # of objects, that's definitely going to be a problem. I've had to
deal with large amounts like that and best bet: only turn on Dockers when
you need to with this file... especially the Object docker. Since the Object
Docker has to list every object on the page (and all the details for each
object) that will slow down performance greatly. You might be able to turn
the dockers on here and there once the file is loaded, but you might wanna
hedge your bet and keep them turned off till absolutely needed. Definitely
have them shut off when opening the file.
As I said before, I don't think there is a limit to the number of objects,
but I'm sure 50K is getting there. It could be a Draw error or insufficient
memory in the printer. Have you tried picking Rasterize entire page on the
Miscellaneous Tab of the print dialogue?

I turned off the Objects dockers and that did improve drawwould/refresh
speed. The printer has at least 1GB of memory, and my pagefile size is
over 2 GB. I don't want to allot much more than that. I went to plot
with the "Rasterize entire page" option turned on, but it came out at a
spool size of almost 900MB! I think I am just going to have to reduce
the number of nodes using the File|Print|PostScript tab. Have not tried
it yet, will post the results.

Using the File|Print|PostScript tab creates a monster spool file as
well ... upwards of 750MB. There is an option on that tab to limit the
number of nodes associated with each curve though - mine was set
(default) to 10,000. I upped it to 15,000 and got the huge file which
crashed our plotter. Do you think there are any other options to push
this through to print?

you could always flatten everything into a single bitmap (be sure to save a
regular version, too) and that should speed up things/reduce the spool size.
