Default Gigabit Ethernet PCI card for a Sparc system

I want to add another Gigabit Ethernet PCI card to the E4500 system
running Solaris 10. I am undecided between Cassini (ce) and Intel
Server (e1000g) NIC.

I googled a bit, but I could not find any comparision between the two.
I only found information about Intel NIC
(http://www.intel.com/design/network...rs/82545gm.htm).

Intel NIC has now GLDv3 (Nemo) driver which is a plus as it brings
certain benefits. As I understand, there won't be any GLDv3 driver for
Cassini. It will remain DLPI based.

Which one performs better with Solaris 10? Is e1000g driver using all
of the host offloading features provided by the NIC?

Damjan

Hi,

look at this http://opensolaris.org/os/project/nemo/
The e1000g performs better under Solaris 10, the cassini driver
will not be supported for Nemo.
